Suspension Lift Kits and Upgrades
Looking to lift the suspension in your 4×4? Referred to as a lift kit, this is a modification that can be made to an SUV or Ute to raise the ride height.
Most vehicle owners will replace their 4×4 suspension once during their vehicle ownership. With so many suspension upgrade options on the market (including inferior products that can be purchased on sites like ebay), it can get very confusing knowing what lift kit to choose.
Here at Ashmore RWC, we work on lift kits on a weekly basis and we choose high quality products such as Dobinsons 4X4 suspensions that we have tried and tested on our own vehicles.
If you’re tempted to purchase a cheap product online, be mindful that it may not be best quality – you get what you pay for. From leaking shocks to broken or sagged springs, we’ve seen it all. It isn’t nice to have to pay to fit the same part twice, let alone fitting a part with bolts holes that don’t line up.
Current laws allow for 2″ or 50mm legal height increase on a 4×4 in Queensland, without having to obtain a modification plate. Keep in mind, you will still need to advise your insurance company of any changes to ensure any modifications to your car do not void your insurance.

- We need to be mindful of brake lines, ABS sensors, bump stops and ball joints
- Most vehicles will tolerate a 40-50mm suspension lift with only minor modifications
- Anything further will usually require more labour and parts to keep everything safe
- If you’re regularly towing, fitment of airbags in the rear suspension can be of benefit
